The Upper Midwest will also see a big storm this Monday. The pattern will relax somewhat leading up to New Year's, but more snow is still is expected across the West along with cold temps.

Short Term Forecast

Christmas powder days throughout the West

An impressive storm cycle is underway out West and will continue through the holiday weekend with deep totals adding up for nearly all major ski regions in Western North America. Check out the 3-day snow forecast from Friday through Sunday.

Forecast for Fri 12/24 - Sat 12/25:

Heavy snow will fall throughout the West on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with deep totals adding up. A couple of weaker storms will move across the Upper Midwest and the Northeast on Friday and Saturday as well, but warmer air will be involved with rain falling at times across most of this region.

Forecast for Sun 12/26 – Mon 12/27:

A series of powerful storms will continue to bring heavy snow to the West with Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Range picking up the deepest totals along with the Oregon Cascades and the Wasatch in Utah. A strong storm will also impact the Upper Midwest on Monday with moderate to heavy snow expected. The Northeast will continue to see frequent weak storms with a mix of snow and rain showers.

Forecast for Tue 12/28 – Wed 12/29:

The pattern will start to relax across the Northwest and Northern Rockies as an arctic airmass takes hold across the region, while the storm track will shift southward with heavy snow expected in Colorado, Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, and Northern New Mexico. Extended Forecast

Outlook for Thu 12/30 – Mon 1/3:

A cold and relatively active pattern will continue across the West with additional storms expected to refill the slopes, though snowfall will not be as heavy compared to the week prior. The Northeast will continue to see a relatively active pattern but storms could produce a mixed bag of precipitation rather than all snow.

Thanks so much for reading and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays! Next update on Monday (12/27).
