Moonlight, sunshine, and the next storm

Summary

Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny and warm, then snow will fall from Sunday night through Monday.

Update

Friday was a gorgeous day with sunshine and warm temperatures that rose into the 30s at mid-mountain.

On Friday night, clear skies allowed the nearly full moon to illuminate the snow cover, making nighttime almost look like daytime.

On Saturday and Sunday, our streak of dry and sunny weather will continue. The high temperature on Saturday will top out in the upper-20s (a few degrees cooler than Friday), then the high temperature on Sunday will be warmer and reach into the mid-30s.

The next storm will arrive on Sunday night just before or around midnight, and steady snow should deliver 3-5 inches by the time that lifts start spinning on Monday morning. Then during the day on Monday, snow showers will continue and I have low confidence in the forecast as we could see just an inch or two, or we could get lucky with 3-5 additional inches. Monday's snowfall will likely not be enough to make us forget about the firmer base on many slopes, but it should be fun to ride the new snow on groomers and the softer, non-sun-affected slopes.

Looking at the rest of next week, Tuesday and Wednesday will be dry, a storm should bring (at least a little) snow on Thursday, then we'll flip back to dry weather from Friday through Sunday (February 10-12). After that, the week of February 13-17 should be stormy across the western U.S., though it continues to be too soon to talk about the details of any individual storms that might bring snow to Colorado.
