A break in the snow for Winter Park

Summary

Monday and Tuesday will be dry, then we’ll see chances for snow on Wednesday night and again on Friday.

Short Term Forecast

Sunday offered a few inches of soft snow that fell on Saturday night plus an additional one inch that accumulated during the day. On Sunday night, snow showers continued with about one more inch of snow accumulating on the mid-mountain snow stake.

Now on Monday morning, low clouds are blocking most sunshine and these low clouds could stick around for most of the day.

On Tuesday, the low clouds will be gone, we’ll see a lot of sunshine, and temperatures should be comfortable with highs in the mid-to-upper 20s.

On Wednesday, we should again see dry weather with a decent amount of sunshine. Then on Wednesday night, the combination of winds from the east and the jet stream overhead will bring intense snow to areas just east of the divide (just east of Winter Park) and there is a chance that we will see at least a few inches. It’s a tricky forecast because most of the snow could stay just a few miles east of the mountain, or we could grab higher totals with just a little luck. For now, I want to keep expectations low and say that we’ll measure a few inches on Wednesday night with potential low-end powder conditions on Thursday morning.

On Thursday, we will flip back to dry and sunny weather.

Extended Forecast

From Friday through Sunday, February 26 to March 1, a storm will take a track around Colorado rather than through Colorado. Having the storm track around Colorado is not great news as this means we will likely see just light snowfall.

With that could-have-been-better news aside, we will still see snowflakes and there could be a few inches of snow on Friday, with additional snow at some point over the weekend or into Monday, March 1st. We will dial in the forecast soon as we gain a little more confidence on the exact track of the storm.
