Happy New Year

Summary

Snow fell on Friday and light snow is lingering now on Saturday morning. The next few days will be dry, then snow will return during the middle of next week.

Update

Recap: Friday & Friday Night

On Friday, we saw 4 inches of snow, and then an additional 4 inches of snow fell on Friday night. I was expecting more snow than this, but we'll take the flakes as it has snowed during eight of the last nine days.

Saturday

It's still snowing lightly this morning and conditions will be soft and fun.

The main story on Saturday, in addition to the soft and fun powder, will be the cold temperatures. Expect readings to be in the single digits on the hill and it will feel cold.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday

These days will be dry and partly-to-mostly sunny. On Sunday, temperatures will be in the teens with lots of sunshine, on Monday we'll see temperatures in the 20s with lots of sunshine, and on Tuesday, once again temperatures will be in the 20s and some clouds will likely filter the sunshine.

January 5 – January 9

Snow will return on or around Wednesday, January 5, and it could snow every day through Sunday, January 9. This five-day storm cycle will target the northern mountains of Colorado, which is good news for us. The first round of significant snow could culminate in fun powder on Thursday and/or Friday, and I have moderate confidence that there will be another round of snow sometime during the weekend of January 8-9.

Thanks for reading and please check back each morning for daily updates!

PS – The significant changes to OpenSnow that I've talked about for the last week are now live. If you're an All-Access subscriber (thank you!), you'll see no changes. If you are not an All-Access subscriber, here is an FAQ with more details about the upcoming changes, and we hope that eventually, we'll earn your support. Also, you can watch 2-3 minute videos about these changes made by myself, our Tahoe forecaster BA, and our Utah forecaster Evan. And finally, check out our Utah forecaster Evan's Twitter thread showing exactly how he uses OpenSnow's All-Access features to track powder.
