Easter Storm

Summary

Several days of spring sunshine and wind are forecast ahead of a developing Pacific storm due Easter Sunday into April 1.

Short Term Forecast

Arizona will remain positioned in a temperate and gradually windier position into Saturday 3/30. This as the low seen on satellite positioned in the Pacific NW gradually makes its way southward remaining offshore. Expect progressively stronger and more troublesome southwest winds each day, Thursday gusting to 40 mph, Friday 50 mph and Saturday with the storm off SoCal 60 mph.

Now for the good part, the storm looks good, moves in early Easter Sunday morning, right around sun up with snow cranking through the day, unfortunately strong winds will accompany the brunt of the storm. Snow keeps up Monday 4/1 with decreasing winds through the day. Looking at 1-2' out of the storm over the two days, much of which comes on Easter.

Should have a good handle on the numbers with the Friday chat.

Extended Forecast

Winter and spring keep taking turns into the first week of April. Beyond April 1 things gradually quiet down through the work week. Then a couple fast moving systems may follow for the following weekend.

NEW: Snow Ratio Forecast

You can now get a good idea of the upcoming snow quality for the next storm via our new "Snow Ratio" forecast for any location in OpenSnow.

When we talk about snow quality, such as “light and fluffy” or “heavy and wet”, we are talking about the snow-to-liquid ratio. The higher the snow-to-liquid ratio, the lighter the snow quality, and vice-versa.

  1. Go to any location screen and tap the "Snow Summary" tab.
  2. Scroll down to the 5-day hourly or 10-day forecast section.
  3. View the 5-day hourly or daily "Snow Ratio" forecast for the next 10 days.

10:1 will be fun but will feel a little heavy. 15:1 will offer some faceshots and feel pretty light. 20:1 will be incredibly light, almost like skiing through nothing but air.

This new feature is currently available with the latest version of the OpenSnow iOS app installed (App Store > OpenSnow > Update) or on the OpenSnow website (OpenSnow.com). It will be available in the OpenSnow Android app soon.
