Snow is falling from Texas through the southeast (Includes LS, MS, AL,GA, TN, NC, SC). Winter storm warnings up for the mountains of NC. Sugar Mountain NC is reporting 1 inch new this morning with moderate snow falling. "we challenge anyone to the chase here as with a 5,300 elevation at the summit and 1200 vertical it's plausible."  An additional 3-6 inches should fall over the next 24 hours so if your not there yet start chasing.

New England will see snow this weekend beginning on Saturday morning.  The heaviest snow will fall closest to the coast where Rhode Island, Eastern MA (Boston) may see 4-8 inches (Wachusett may be a viable option).  2-4 inches may fall in the western mountains including a wide area of southern NH and Vermont with higher amounts possible in Maine the further east you travel. Higher snow amounts are likely mid week in the extended forecast.

Moisture will begin falling again over New England next week on Tuesday.  Its unclear where the highest amounts will set up. My speculation favors resorts in New Hampshire and Maine where 4-8 inches are possible through Thursday morning. Vermont will see snowfall with perhaps lighter amounts? Higher amounts may happen with a good tap of moisture from the ocean waters (Southerly flow) combining with colder air moving from the north. The highest snowfall amounts will occur Tuesday late AM through Wednesday afternoon.  Snow showers will continue over Maine into Thursday morning. Your best bet for powder might be Wednesday morning at most resorts or perhaps later for northern Maine locations. 

Strong high pressure continues in the West.  Models show this ridge weakening around the December 17th timeframe.  There is no way to forecast what happens from that point other than confidence increases for some moisture may return to the west.  Confidence is high that the ridge weakens. Confidence is low on moisture and favored areas that may see precipitation.
