Summary

The band of heavy snow is moving across the state as expected on Sunday morning. Expect less activity in the afternoon except for northern areas where snow might stick around longer. Snow showers will continue Sunday night, Monday, and Monday night for I-70 and north in a moist northwest flow. Tuesday will be dry for all areas, then the next storm brings snow Wednesday night through midday Thursday with potentially good accumulations. Snow showers could stick around on Friday through the weekend for I-70 and north with moist northwest flow.

Details

Sunday (today):
A good band of snow moved through most areas this morning but it'll pass to the east by mid morning. The rest of the day will be a mix of sun and snow showers, with northern areas like Steamboat seeing a better chance of heavier snow through afternoon with a secondary wave of snow. It will be pretty darn windy this afternoon for most areas with gusts over 40mph for the northern half of the state.

Sunday night, Monday, and Monday night:
A moist northwest flow will affect areas along I-70 and north. It's basically impossible to time the little pieces of energy that move through this flow and bring heavier periods of snow, so I just kept a few inches in the forecast for each time period. It'll be drier for areas south of I-70 during this time, but depending on the exact position of the northwest flow, there could be some flurries or snow showers down to Aspen.

Tuesday, Tuesday night, and Wednesday morning:
Expect dry, mostly sunny, and warmer conditions as we're in between storms.

Wednesday night through Thursday:
The storm we've been watching for a week will finally make its way east into Colorado. It will actually come in two pieces: The first will focus mostly on the southern half of Colorado on Wednesday night, and the second will focus on the northern half of Colorado on Thursday. This looks like a 4-8 or 5-10 inch storm for many locations, but it's still five days away so there's time to fine tune things. Thursday could be a nice powder day for some areas.

Friday through the weekend:
This is a very interesting forecast. In the wake of the Thursday storm, a moist northwest flow could set up during this time period. This *could* bring periods of snow through the weekend to areas along and north of I-70. The models are pointing to this scenario, but as you probably know if you're been skiing all season, northwest flow is super hard to predict accurately just a day in advance, let alone 5-7 days in advance. But at least I'm seeing the possibility in the models for this to happen, and if it does, it would mean a winter-like weekend for northern Colorado. Let's hope for the best as it would be great for skiing and also great for the moisture we so deperately need.
