Update

We are in the middle of a fun storm cycle with chances for snow during four days in a row from Thursday through Sunday.

On Thursday, we got lucky and a few stronger storm cells moved over Copper, dropping 1.5 inches across the mountain during the morning and an additional 0.5 inches during the late afternoon.

On Thursday night, the storm cells stayed to the west and we saw dry weather.

Now on Friday morning, there are some breaks of sunshine and also a few snow showers just to our west. The snow surface should be soft thanks to the 2 inches that accumulated on Thursday afternoon.

For the rest of Friday, expect a mix with a few breaks of sunshine, lots of clouds, and perhaps some snow showers if we’re lucky.

Then on Friday night, we should see steadier snow with 2-5 inches of accumulation. This should provide a low-end powder morning for first chair on Saturday. Also, keep your eye on the snow stake camera as there are some aspects about this storm (wind direction switching to blow from the northwest, cooling temperatures) that could bring more snow than forecast to Copper. The limiting factor for snowfall will be the cold temperatures, which will drop to the single digits on Saturday morning (temperatures this cold can mean that the atmosphere produces smaller snowflakes which would limit snow accumulation).

On Saturday, the storm will clear out in the morning and we should be dry with at least partly sunny weather through the day.

On Saturday night, the final storm in this cycle will bring snow through Sunday midday with an additional 2-5 inches of accumulation. This final storm should keep the snow soft and fresh for Sunday morning.

Looking further ahead, we’ll have dry weather from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday, with snow possibly returning sometime between next Tuesday evening and Thursday as long as that storm doesn’t track too far to the south.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for an update each morning!
