Healthy Totals Friday → Saturday

Update

The remaining open resorts are reporting 3-6 inches on Wednesday morning, which is right in line with our final forecast of 3-6 inches from midday Tuesday through Tuesday night.

Arapahoe Basin: 3"
Breckenridge: 6"
Loveland: 4"
Winter Park: 6"

The strong cold front on Tuesday and single-digits temps on Tuesday night has left the road surfaces under an icy and snow-packed mix through Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. The high April sun angle will melt out most road surfaces by midday Wednesday but expect slightly slower travel speeds over the high passes.

The rest of Wednesday and Thursday will now remain dry, with temperatures climbing into the low 30s on Wednesday and into the upper 30s to low 40s on Thursday. All road surfaces will be clear and dry from midday Wednesday through Thursday afternoon.

Our next round of healthy snow totals will then take aim for the I-70 mountain corridor from Thursday night through midday Saturday. Due to the amount of moisture in the air, mild temperatures, and the expected snowfall rates, very messy road surfaces will be encountered from Friday morning through midday Saturday...

Thursday night through Friday afternoon will be a bit more sporadic but quick and intense snowfall will be possible. Our best chance for the deepest totals will then arrive on Friday night and continue into Saturday morning. In total, most areas will be looking at 8-16 inches from Thursday night through midday Saturday.

Icy, slushy, and snow-packed road surfaces will be encountered, with very slow travel speeds from the foothills west of Denver through the Eisenhower Tunnel. Give yourself plenty of extra travel time, make sure your vehicle is prepared with snow tires, AWD/4WD, and/or an alternative traction device, and remember to keep an eye on CDOT for the latest updates from Thursday night through Saturday morning.

Dry conditions will then follow for the second half of Saturday, with sunny skies and mild temperatures prevailing for Sunday. Wet and icy road surfaces will be encountered on Saturday night before all road surfaces become clear and dry on Sunday.

Looking further ahead, there isn't much going on beyond this weekend. We could see a quick chance for snow next Tuesday, April 24th but that could be it for the rest of April.

Thanks for reading and travel safe!
