Wintry Mix Friday PM into Saturday
Summary
A rain/snow mix will move across the Midwest Friday night into Saturday with some light snow accumulations likely for the Lake Superior resorts. Bonus days have been announced for this weekend, so grab the gear and hit the slopes!
Update
- TBD if any resorts remain open beyond April 7th
Snow Chances Friday, March 29 to Sunday, April 7
North Shore Lake Superior
What an excellent past few days on the slopes for the region, with daily refreshes and powder turns!
- Mont du Lac has announced a bonus day on Saturday!
- Lutsen and Giants Ridge are open daily through April 7
- Loch Lomond has announced a bonus weekend from Friday to Monday I believe
- Mount Baldy open Friday-Sunday
Friday - Saturday: Snow remains likely Friday night into Saturday AM with a couple possible for the resorts spinning the lifts on Saturday. The best chance for 2" if not a little more will be for Giants Ridge and Lutsen. The Thunder Bay resorts will be on the northern edge of the steadier snow, but a little refresh is possible.
Sunday and Beyond: Models have trended further south with the system early next week followed by warmer temps and spring-like conditions on the slopes. It remains uncertain who will be open after April 7th in this region, if anyone.
South Shore Lake Superior
- Mount Bohemia announced bonus days Saturday-Monday
- Snowriver may have a bonus day next weekend, otherwise, April 1st will be their last day of the season per their website
- Ski Brule plans to be open April 6-7 in addition to this weekend
- Searchmont does not have any scheduled dates after Monday, April 1st per their calendar
Friday - Saturday: A rain/snow mix remains likely with a little bit of new snow possible for Snowriver, Ski Brule, and Mout Bohemia for Saturday when the lifts spin. The snow likely does not arrive until during the day and/or evening at Searchmont on Saturday, so a little fresh snow could be had on Saturday and/or Sunday.
Sunday and Beyond: Rain/snow mix early next week now likely remains to the south of the region for the most part with a warming trend next week.
Twin Cities Region
- Andes Tower Hills, Trollhaugen, Wild Mtn, and Buck Hill have announced bonus days!
- Rain/snow mix Friday PM into Sat AM (most will fall while lifts are not spinning)
- Afternoon temps in the 30s and 40s on Friday and Saturday
- These warm temps will make for soft spring-like conditions
- Bonus days beyond this weekend are in limbo as it looks mild next week
Central and Southern Wisconsin
- Granite Peak open through the 7th
Friday-Saturday: A wintry mix is likely Friday night into Saturday AM with some freezing rain possible for Granite Peak. The freezing rain could cause a minor delay to lifts spinning but I do not expect it to be a significant delay as temps warm above freezing on Saturday.
Sunday into Next week: Mild, afternoon temps warming into the 40s most days to start next week. A chance of rain/snow mix is possible on Monday. The end of next week could be quite mild, with 50s likely, if not warmer. These warmer temps will provide soft, spring-like turns most if not all days on the slopes.
Northern Lower Michigan
- Nub's Nob's last scheduled day will be March 31
- Crystal Mtn Daily through April 1st
- Boyne Mtn tentatively open daily through April 7th
Friday: Firm and fast in AM, softer by PM as temps climb into the upper 30s
Saturday: Snow showers likely, maybe some light rain mixes, with some light refresh possible
Sunday-Monday: Mild and spring-like with temps in the 40s during the afternoon with chances of rain/snow mix possible on Monday.
I believe only Boyne Mountain will be open beyond Monday, but will confirm that over the weekend.
The next forecast will be posted on Saturday - thanks for reading!
