Big storms coming to Sun Valley for opening day!

Summary

A low pressure weather system will pass through the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday, and multiple waves of moisture are expected to follow on Thanksgiving day and Friday, bringing substantial quantities of snow to Sun Valley. Up to 20 inches of snow are expected through Saturday morning before the storms taper off over the weekend. Sun Valley will open for the season on Thursday with top-to-bottom skiing on the River Run side of the mountain. Dollar Mountain will open as well on Thursday.

Short Term Forecast

Significant snowfall is expected on Thanksgiving Day in Sun Valley, with 3-6 inches of snow expected during the day and Thursday night. More significant quantities of snow are expected on Friday during the day, with 5-9 inches forecast, and another 2-4 inches forecast on Friday night. The storms taper off by Saturday morning after the front passes through. 

Temperatures will be in the 20s during the day and the teens at night. Chance of snow each day is about 90 percent. 

Extended Forecast

Cooler and drier weather is expected over the weekend, and then another storm system may come through on Tuesday-Wednesday of next week. 

Announcements

Sun Valley is opening on Thursday, Nov. 22, with top-to-bottom skiing on the River Run side of the mountain. Dollar Mountain is opening as well on Thursday. Lifts running include River Run Express, Lookout Express, Roundhouse Gondola, Christmas quad and the Kinderspiel carpet.
