Want powder? Head west!

Summary

A weekend storm will deliver additional powder days to Arizona, New Mexico, and southern Colorado. Then a series of storms next week will first bring snow to British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest before shifting south and delivering more deep days to California, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Short Term Forecast

What a week it has been in the western US with 2-8 feet of snow from California east to Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado.

Your legs are not going to get much of a rest because more snow is in the forecast!

This weekend (January 14-15), a slow-moving storm over the southwestern US will bring snow to Arizona, New Mexico, and southern Colorado.

Then next week (January 16-20), the weather pattern will become more active across the west. Storms will begin to hammer British Columbia and the northwest early in the week, and then the snow will move into California and the central and southern Rockies by the end of the week.

While this weather pattern is great for the west, the east will be warmer and the big storm this week (on Tuesday into Wednesday) will likely bring rain to the mid-Atlantic and a rain/ice/snow mix to the northeast.

Extended Forecast

Looking ahead to next weekend and the following week (through January 27), the weather pattern will keep the cool air in the west with warmer weather in the east.

This likely means that you’ll be able to score powder days in the west through most of the rest of January. I hope your legs are strong and you are ready to chase powder!
