January 2018 Snowpack Update

The Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies have been the place to be for the deepest snowpack during the first half of the 2017-18 season and that will not change as we head into the final days of January. British ColumbiaWashington, Montana, and Wyoming hold the strongest numbers but Colorado has seen a resurgence in recent weeks. 

The map below shows the current snowpack compared to average, with data from the backcountry weather station network known as SNOTEL.

The following Base Depth vs. Average graphs are available to OpenSnow All-Access users for nearly every mountain location in the western US and Canada. Here are a few locations with the deepest snowpacks (compared to the 30-year average).
