Will January Go Out With a Bang?

Summary

Following a week of frigid, northerly wind woes winds relax somewhat for more user friendly conditions on the slopes. A storm due early next week 1/30-31 still holds uncertainties.

Short Term Forecast

Friday winds will remain borderline for the Gondola out of the northwest gusting near 35 mph. Temperatures moderate with the switch in wind direction, highs running in the 30's. Sunday a wound up low pressure system dives into California which will bring an increase in southwesterly winds through the day.

The storm dives further into SoCal Monday. The GFS much less aggressive with the moisture tap Monday than the Euro. The Euro advertising healthy snowfall Monday the GFS not so much.

Both models are now diving the system into Mexico Tuesday as it sheers apart.

Bottom line the GFS is advertising 2-4" for the mountains and mainly Tuesday, while the Euro is more appealing with a 8-12" event and a bit earlier.

I'd like to think with the way things have been going this could turn out better than expected. More will be become clear over the coming days and I will update when models have a better grip.

Extended Forecast

A progressive pattern unfolds moving into February with several fast moving systems entering the West off the Pacific, though most of the energy appears to stay north of Arizona.
