One inch of new snow, next storm begins on Saturday afternoon

Summary

Following the one inch of snow we received on Thursday, we'll see dry weather on Friday and early on Saturday, then the next storm will bring waves of snow from Saturday afternoon through Monday night.

Update

On Thursday morning, snowflakes returned and we saw a brief intense snow shower that delivered about 1 inch of snow to the mid-and-upper part of the mountain. It's not a lot, but it was good to see the flakes!

Friday and the first half of Saturday will swing back to dry weather. Temperatures each day will be in the 30s.

The next storm will bring waves of snow from Saturday afternoon through Monday night. This storm will be strengthening as it tracks to the south of Colorado, and while the strengthening is a good thing, the southerly track means that the wind direction will often blow from the north and the north-northeast, and these are not favorable wind directions for us.

Based on these competing positive and negative factors, I'm going to take a middle-of-the-road approach and forecast 3-6 inches of snow, with steadier snow possible on Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday afternoon through Monday morning, and then showers through the day on Monday and into Monday night. This is not a lot of snow, but perhaps it'll give the slopes a bit of a refresh for Sunday and Monday.

Also, this storm will bring cooler temperatures with highs in the teens to 20s on Sunday and Monday, and this will enable more snowmaking across the mountain.

In the longer range, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be dry, then the next storm will likely bring snow around Friday, November 24, and Saturday, November 25. After that, another storm is possible around November 30 to December 1. Neither of these two upcoming systems is likely to bring significant snow, but hopefully, we'll see at least moderate snow totals from each storm, and that should push us somewhat closer to an average snowpack and more open terrain by the end of November.
