Friday Recap

The ski resorts picked up 3-6 inches for Saturday morning's reports, which is 2-3 inches more than I was expecting.

After watching the cold front roll through Steamboat on Friday morning, I knew there was potential for 3-4 inches but I was pleasantly surprised to see Breckenridge and Winter Park pick up 6 inches.

Saturday - Monday

Single-digit temps and clear skies are now in place on Saturday morning ahead of picture-perfect weather for the rest of the holiday weekend. Mid-mountain temps will start in the single digits to low teens each morning before rising into the 20s each afternoon under sunny skies.

Travel Forecast

Wet, icy, and a few snow-packed road surfaces east of the Eisenhower Tunnel will continue to be encountered through Saturday morning. Outside of traffic along westbound I-70, traffic should be cruising along at normal speeds.

As always, keep an eye on CDOT for the latest travel updates.

Dry road surfaces and normal travel speeds will quickly return by Saturday afternoon and continue through Tuesday. Holiday and weekend traffic will be encountered but normal travel speeds can be expected elsewhere.

Our next round of wet and icy road surfaces will follow from Wednesday, January 19 through Saturday, January 22. More details to come as we get closer.

Extended Forecast

Second Half of January

Following one more day of dry weather on Tuesday, we'll be tracking multiple rounds of snow from Wednesday, January 19 through Saturday, January 22.

These chances for snow will come from quick-moving pulses of energy that will slide down the spine of the Rockies and into northern Colorado. Not an ideal pattern but it can lead to multiple days of light snow.

Looking further ahead, we'll likely receive more dry weather as we head into the week of January 24. We could then see a stormier pattern develop as we head into the final days of January and early February. Of course, this is fantasy land but it's encouraging.

Thanks for reading! Next update on Monday (1/17).
