GoI70 Traffic Forecast

Monday

We'll end the holiday weekend with one more day of gorgeous weather. We'll receive mostly sunny skies, light winds, and mid-mountain temp climbing into the upper 20s to low 30s.

Tuesday

Increasing cloud coverage on Monday night and into Tuesday will be the signal for a slight change in our weather for the rest of the week. Temps will only climb into the low 20s by midday Tuesday.

Wednesday - Friday

Cooler temps, mostly cloudy skies, and a slight chance for very light snow will follow on Wednesday. We'll mainly be watching Wednesday evening for our best chance at receiving a few flakes but totals will likely only amount from a dusting to maybe an inch or two come Thursday morning.

Following a break on Thursday with mostly sunny skies and temps in the teens, our full attention will shift to Friday (1/21) for our next chance at light to moderate snowfall.

This system will slide down the spine of the northern Rockies and we should see decent snowfall rates on Friday afternoon and into Friday night. As of now, we'll go with 2-6 inches, with Saturday morning being the time to mark down for soft turns.

Travel Forecast

Dry road surfaces will continue on Monday and Tuesday. Outside of heavy traffic along eastbound I-70 on Monday afternoon, travel will cruise along at normal speeds.

Mostly dry road surfaces will continue on Wednesday and Thursday. There might be a few wet and icy road surfaces on Wednesday night but travel should continue to cruise along at normal speeds.

We'll then be tracking wet, icy, and snow-packed road surfaces on Friday and into Friday night. This will be the only day to watch for potential travel impacts this week so stay tuned as we dial in the exact timing.

Dry road surfaces and normal travel speeds follow next weekend (1/22-23) and into early next week. We'll then be tracking the second half of next week (1/25-27) for more snowy road surfaces.

Extended Forecast

Next Weekend & Beyond

Following the snowfall on Friday, sunny skies and comfortable temperatures will prevail on Saturday (1/22) and likely continue through next Monday (1/24). Temps will likely start in the single digits each morning and rise into the low 20s each afternoon.

Looking further ahead, we'll be watching for another chance for snow around Tuesday, January 25 and into Wednesday, January 26. The longer-range models continue to hint at a stormier pattern during the final days of January and into early February so as always, we'll see how the pattern trends as we get closer.
