Snow Returns Sunday into Wednesday...

Summary

A break in the storms through Saturday. Snow showers are expected for Sunday through Tuesday and into Wednesday. We could see a brief break Thursday before another system could bring more snow by Thursday night into Friday the 24th.

Update

Friday - Saturday:

We have a break in the storms through Saturday with no weather-related travel impacts expected.

Sunday - Monday Systems:

Weak systems moving through are expected to bring snow showers to the northern Sierra by early morning Sunday through Monday. We could see a lull Monday night ahead of another storm moving in by Tuesday morning.

Snow levels look to be around 6000-7000 ft. Sunday and fall to 5000-6000 ft. Sunday night into Monday. We could see several inches of snow accumulate on both days over Donner Pass.

Be prepared for chain controls from around Kingvale to Donner Lake Sunday and possibly lowering to around Blue Canyon to Truckee Sunday night into Monday.

Tuesday - Wednesday Storm:

The next storm moves into southern CA with Tahoe on the northern side of the storm. We could see snow showers continue Tuesday into Wednesday, and possibly a few lingering into Wednesday night.

Snow levels look to be fluctuating between 3000-5000 ft. through the period. We could see several more inches accumulate over Donner Pass on both days.

Lighter snow showers Wednesday during the day could allow some melting on the roads. But expect chain controls to continue through Wednesday night so that you are prepared, and give yourself extra time to travel through the Sierra.

Long-Range:

We could see a brief break Thursday before another storm could move through Thursday night and Friday the 24th with more snow.

The pattern could remain active through the last week of March, but right now most storms look to be on the weaker side. We'll continue to watch the trends.
