A Break Monday, Weak Systems Tue-Fri...

Summary

Clear for Monday. Another weak system will bring several inches of snow Tuesday. Weak systems look to continue through Friday with light snowfall. The weekend of the 25-26th could be mostly storm free. The storm door looks to remain open into April. The next storm could move in around the 28th-29th.

Update

Monday:

Dry for Monday into Monday night with no weather-related travel issues expected.

Tuesday - Wednesday Snow:

Snow showers with the next storm are expected to move early Tuesday morning, with steadier snow mid-morning through Tuesday afternoon. Several inches of snow are expected during the day over Donner Pass Scattered snow showers Tuesday night could continue into Wednesday night, but with only very light accumulations expected.

Snow levels look to be fluctuating between 4500-5500 ft. Tuesday, and then falling below 3000 ft. Tuesday night, back up to 5000-6000 ft. Wednesday, and below 4000 ft. Wednesday night. During the day on Wednesday, the scattered snow showers would likely only bring wet roads with the higher spring sun angle.

Expect chain controls to set back up Tuesday morning into Tuesday night from around Blue Canyon into Truckee. Lighter snow showers Tuesday night and Wednesday night could bring chain controls through the Sierra if the showers are heavy enough.

Carry chains and watch for slick roads throughout the period. Expect slow travel on Tuesday.

Thursday - Friday Systems:

A pair of weak systems could keep snow showers around Thursday through Friday night. It will continue to be hard to see the snow accumulate on the roads during the daytime hours. We could see light accumulations at night.

Watch for slick roads and possible chain controls over Donner Pass, especially Thursday and Friday nights.

The Weekend:

Scattered snow showers could linger into Saturday, but travel should improve with partly-mostly sunny skies expected through Sunday.

Long-Range:

We could see a break through the 27th. We'll let you know if that changes. Another storm is possible around the 28th-29th, and another around the 31st-2nd of April. We'll continue to watch the trends with those as well.

The pattern could remain active into the first week of April.
