Snow Tuesday, Unsettled Into Next Week...

Summary

Partly sunny on Monday. A storm moves in Tuesday morning with heavier snow into the evening. Snow showers Wednesday. Partly sunny Thursday and Friday with a chance for scattered snow showers. Snow showers are possible each day through at least next Wednesday the 5th. A drier pattern is possible during the 2nd week of April.

Update

Monday:

The dry pattern continues into Monday evening.

Tuesday - Wednesday Storm:

A storm moves in early Tuesday morning with snow showers becoming heavy snow by mid-morning Tuesday into the evening. Scattered snow showers Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with snow showers Wednesday afternoon-evening before clearing out later Wednesday night.

Be prepared for heavy snow, chain controls, and slow travel Tuesday into Tuesday night. Snow levels will be fairly low by Tuesday afternoon, so chain controls could extend from at least Blue Canyon to the NV state line at times. Snow levels dropping below 3000 ft. Tuesday night.

By Wednesday with the scattered snow showers, the roads could become just wet during the day. Watch for slick roads Wednesday evening if we see any snow showers as the sun sets and roads cool down.

Thursday - Friday:

We could see some scattered snow showers Thursday and Friday afternoon-evening but mostly dry with any daytime snow showers likely just bringing wet roads. Watch for possible slick spots at night after the sun sets.

Weekend Systems:

Saturday through Sunday night two weak systems are forecast to move through the northern Sierra. The models are split on how far south the Saturday system digs, and then better agreement on snow showers for Sunday afternoon-night.

If the Saturday system stays farther north we may just continue to see afternoon-evening scattered snow showers with only wet roads until the sun sets, and only very light snowfall accumulations. If it digs faster south we could see a few inches of snow Satuday evening-night with chain controls possible, so be prepared for slower travel and possible chain controls over Donner Pass.

We could see a better chance of a few inches of snow Sunday evening-night with chain controls over Donner Pass. Be prepared for some snow, slower travel, and chain controls, especially after sunset.

Long-Range:

The latest long-range model runs show snow showers possibly continuing each day through the end of next week as additional weak systems move through the region. We'll have more details on each as they get closer.

We could finally start to see a drier pattern developing around the weekend of the 8th-9th through the 2nd week of April.
