3-5" new snow Friday AM, light snow and cloudy this weekend

Summary

A cold front pushed into Idaho Thurs. PM/Friday AM, bringing colder winter-like temps and 3-5" of new snow nearly statewide for some Friday freshies for skiers/riders. A Low pressure trough over the Pacific Northwest will slowly move east into Idaho and dip south into Utah on Saturday-Sunday, bringing unstable, breezy weather conditions with winter-like temps and light snow this weekend.

Short Term Forecast

Bogus Basin snow stake area got blown around a fair bit early Friday AM, but it's showing about 5" of new snow and counting! Bogus is forecast to get another 1-3" during the ski/ride day and another 1-2" on Friday night. It'll be cloudy and unsettled throughout the weekend at Bogus with a chance of partly cloudy skies on Monday. (photo courtesy Bogus Basin)

New snow overnight for Friday AM powder day in N. Idaho ranged from 2" of new at Schweitzer, 3" at Silver and 2" at Lookout, with 1-4" more forecast on Friday. Light snow, unstable conditions and winter-like temps will prevail through the weekend with partly cloudy to sunny skies possible on Monday.

Low trough position as of Friday morning will move very slowly to the east and south and remain partially centered over Idaho through the weekend, bringing unstable and winter-like weather.

Brundage and Tamarack got 4" of new snow as of Friday AM, and it's expected to snow hard during the ski/ride day with another 5" to come at Brundage and 3-4" at Tam. 1-3" may fall on Friday night and then light snow is forecast to fall during the day on Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 20s.

It will be windy at Sun Valley and Soldier on Friday, with potentially very big winds in the Camas Prairie with the cold front moving through. Wind gusts of 35 mph are forecast at Sun Valley on Friday afternoon, but it won't be as windy in the AM.

Pomerelle and Magic are forecast to get hit quite hard with this storm with significant winds and 5-8" of new snow to fall during the ski/ride day on Friday. 3" are forecast at Pebble Creek Friday and 3" overnight for a potential of a powder day for Pocatello skiers/riders on Saturday morning. Kelly Canyon should get in on some of that fun as well, with 3-6" forecast over the next two days.

Extended Forecast

Partial clearing is expected on Monday of next week nearly statewide, but another Low pressure system is forecast to move into the Northwest and Idaho by Tuesday or Wednesday. More snow is forecast by mid-week and going into next weekend.

There's only a week or more to the ski season, depending on location ... (see closing dates below), so get in your turns while you can! It doesn't look all that promising for warm, sunny spring snow in the next 1-2 weeks. Like to have some of that to close out the season!
