Mostly sunny Wed, active snowy pattern resumes Thurs-Sat

Summary

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies are forecast Wednesday statewide except for a band of snow hitting Pomerelle and Pebble Creek with 4-6" expected during the ski/ride day. A Low Pressure trough will approach Idaho and the NW from the Gulf of AK Thursday and bring a series of snow showers through Saturday with 2-4" of new snow falling every day. 6-12" expected overall by Saturday.

Short Term Forecast

Enjoy the sunshine on Wednesday if you can because we won't see any sun in the mountains until maybe Sunday. The Low trough centered over S. California is sending snow storms northward into the Great Basin, and Pomerelle, Magic Mountain, Pebble Creek and Kelly Canyon will be getting fresh snow Wednesday-Thursday from that system. The fresh snow Wednesday will be falling on 5" of new that Pomerelle has gotten in the last 24 hours, and 2" at Pebble Creek.

The Low trough approaching Idaho and the Northwest from the Gulf of Alaska will have a moist cold front associated with it, bringing the best chance of heavy snow Thursday night-Saturday AM. Schweitzer, Silver and Lookout all will get new snow out of that series of storms ranging from a minimum of 4-6" to a max of 9-12" by Saturday morning.

Brundage, Bogus Basin and Tamarack also will be hitting hard with that series of snow storms, with 3-6" expected by Thursday night, and then another 3-5" Friday morning and 2-4" Friday night. Cumulative snow totals could exceed 10" by Saturday AM.

Sun Valley is not forecast to get as much out of the storm system, more like an inch to 1/2" each day.

Pomerelle and Pebble Creek will keep getting snow Thursday-Saturday, with another 3-9" expected on top of what's forecast here mid-week.

Extended Forecast

Unstable weather is expected to continue through the weekend, with winter-like conditions and cool high temperatures in the 20s. We may see some clearing by next Monday-Wednesday.
