Moist system approaching S. Idaho Monday, 6-10" by Tues AM

Summary

A moist weather system is moving into Southern Idaho on Tuesday morning, and it's expected to deliver 4-8" during the ski/ride day and more tonight. SW flow is favoring Bogus Basin, Pomerelle, Brundage, Tamarack and Pebble Creek. Cloudy in N. Idaho on Monday and clearing Tues-Wed with warm temps. Two Low Pressure troughs moving through this week will keep our weather generally unstable.

Short Term Forecast

Bogus Basin and Sun Valley got 2" overnight by Monday AM. Snow is forecast to fall during the ski/ride day in the West Central Mountains at Brundage and Tamarack, where 3-7" is expected and a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect. Bogus is forecast to get 4-8" during the day and another 2-4" Monday night for a nice *pow* day on Tuesday with partial sunshine.

Pomerelle is in the bull's eye with 4-8" forecast during the ski/ride day (Monday afternoon), and then another 3-7" tonight for a potential of more than 10" on Tuesday AM. Partly sunny skies Tuesday could make for a nice powder day! Pom gets another dose of 6-12" Tuesday PM/Wednesday on top of the early week storm, so it will be piling up! Magic should get in on that action as well.

Pebble Creek is forecast to get 3" during the ski day Monday, but 4-5" Monday night, for a powder day Tuesday morning. Another 3-9" cumulative are forecast by Friday at Pebble.

Radar map on Monday shows the location of the storm system generally focused on SW Idaho and SE Idaho and largely missing N. Idaho.

Cloudy weather is forecast in N. Idaho on Monday, and then clearing skies Tuesday-Wednesday with highs in the mid-30s at Schweitzer, Silver and Lookout. Similar weather is forecast at Silver and Lookout, with clouds and very light snow on Monday, a good chance of sunshine Tuesday-Wednesday. Talk about yin-yang between N. Idaho and S. Idaho!

Another moist storm system will approach Idaho on Thursday-Saturday with a second Low trough digging into the Northwest and Idaho. Temps will cool down by Thursday and more winter-like conditions will prevail through the weekend. Good chance of snow with that system.

Cumulative snow totals forecast through Saturday with European Ensemble group. These totals are less than what NOAA is predicting. But generally unstable weather will prevail this week with progressively cooler temps and chances of snow nearly every day in S. Idaho.

Extended Forecast

Generally unstable weather is predicted to continue through this weekend. A High pressure ridge may move into the area by the end of the March.

Thanks for reading! My next forecast will be on Wednesday, March 22.
