Snow returns to the forecast…

Update

West of the Divide:

With the latest model runs it now appears 5-10” are possible above 5500' by Tuesday night along mainly the NW areas (Whitefish, Blacktail) of the Westside. The snow amounts will be higher closer to the Continental Divide so the upper mountain at Whitefish looks to be in the best position. Places to south may see 2-4”, especially Discovery and Lost Trail (which base elevations are at 7000'), which are also close to the Divide. High-pressure moves back in and will dry things out from Wednesday through Sunday. There is a slight chance of a few mountain snow showers Friday with no real accumulations but if this changes, I’ll let you know. Temps will be cooler for this dry period, so snowmaking will be possible at those few areas that blow snow Wednesday morning through Friday likely. Next week the pattern looks to change to a typical NW flow, which should open the storm door for more consistent unsettled weather.

East of the Divide:

This next storm’s forecast is a little tougher for the Eastsiders as a few questions still exist on a few low-pressure systems movements. We have modified arctic air from Canada that if the right movement of these systems come together, then areas in the Central region like Great Divide and Showdown could receive up to 8”. Right now I’ll be conservative with a 2-4” storm total for these places. Down south at Bridger Bowl and Big Sky the story is pretty much the same. If the lows in question move to the south and east we could be talking at least 8” by Wednesday afternoon. I’m thinking 3-5” is more likely. Farther to the east over at Red Lodge, 2-4” look probable by end of the day Wednesday. Sunny skies build in Thursday and look to last into Sunday. Temps will be cold for snowmaking early on before rising to above average by Saturday. Next week the pattern looks to change to a NW flow, which should open the storm door even more. Stay tuned for updates.
