Snow on the way....

Summary

Mix of rain and snow coming this weekend. Sunday is looking to be the best day in terms of conditions. Expect temperatures to rebound after this weekend, potential storm Wednesday and Friday.

Short Term Forecast

Temperatures were incredibly warm yesterday for this time of year! Plymouth had temperatures in the lower 60’s at some points. Felt like a spring day for sure, and that’s going to stay the trend for today and tomorrow. Looking at temperatures right now, north of the New Hampshire and Massachusetts border temperatures are around freezing, while south of the border is in the 40’s. Conditions are fair right now, but expect more warm temperatures to damage the snowpack ahead. Here is the current temperature forecast for today and tomorrow:

Today there is the chance for brief showers to pass over the region, but the bulk of the rain will stay north of us. That doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods just yet. Following the even warmer temperatures Saturday, that evening a large rain shower will cross over the region. This rain is associated with a cold front, so expect rains to be heavier than normal in your area. Due to the fact it’s happening in the middle of the night, coupled with the cold air, the back half of the storm will actually produce some snow. These amounts are always tricky to predict, it’s difficult to determine exactly where it will flip over to snow and when. The way the models are running right now, expect the mountain regions to receive totals ranging from 3-7”. Statewide expect totals less than three inches. The roads will be fine if you’re heading out Sunday, the plows have been doing a wonderful job this year. This much needed snow will help the snowpack, but conditions will only improve slightly coupled with the rain before it. Everything should be said and done by Sunday morning when it moves east out of the region. Here is the storm track:

Extended Forecast

Looking past Sunday, get ready for temperatures to return to normal! Temperatures will fall back to the lower 40’s as highs for the region. This will spell good news for the hurting slopes. If your mountain has the ability to produce man made snow, those will be pumping out snowflakes for sure after Sunday. In terms of storms, there won’t be much until Wednesday. Models are still a bit too far out, but expect another round of rain showers during that time. This storm is looking to be even larger than the last one, so as we get closer we’ll know how that’s going to affect the slopes. Looking even farther ahead, there is the chance for some snow next Friday. As of right now it doesn’t look like it will be severe, but of course it’s too far out to know anything for sure. Looks like we’ll just have to enjoy the snow coming Saturday night for a while.

Overall conditions right now are on the fair side, and will more or less stay the same for tomorrow. Small showers are expected today and tomorrow, but again those won’t produce much. Sunday will be interesting with the rain coming in Saturday night, but then flipping over to snow. Accumulations will be noticeable, so if you’re looking for powder, your best bet will be Sunday. The temperatures around the higher summits will likely be below freezing for a good portion of the storm, so expect more snow in the mountains than in the valleys. The rest of the week’s conditions will be fair to good until Wednesday’s rain storm. The slopes will hurt for a few days until Friday with a chance of snow. Check back tomorrow for more information on Sunday’s snow, and the week’s storms! Happy Skiing!
