Heads up, there may be fresher snow! Read the latest Steamboat Daily Snow

Update

Sunday, today, is when the storm arrives, and I do not see any data that would make me change the forecast.

We will begin to see snow showers starting on Sunday mid-morning or midday, then we should see steadier snow on Sunday late afternoon. You'll likely find a bit of fresh snow as the day goes on, with the best runs close to when the lifts close.

On Sunday night, the storm will strengthen to the east of Colorado and this will create a northwest wind over Steamboat. While wrap-around moisture and the temperature of ~10F at the summit is favorable for additional snowfall, the wind direction from the northwest isn't the best direction for Steamboat (from the west or west-northwest is better). Therefore, we will likely see a few additional inches of snow after lifts close on Sunday, but at this point, I am not expecting big totals. No matter, Monday morning should be a good time to enjoy the soft snow resulting from the storm on Sunday and Sunday night, and keep your eye on the summit snow stake camera just in case the wind direction changes and we do get more snow than I expect.

Snow showers should continue through Monday morning, then we’ll see more sunshine during the afternoon. A few additional snow showers could push through from Monday night to Tuesday night, but accumulations look light or zero at this time.

Following dry weather on Wednesday and possibly through most of Thursday, the next storm will bring snow starting later on Thursday and extending through Friday night. This storm will be on the warmer side and its track might not favor Steamboat, but with the storm pushing abundant moisture into Colorado, we could get lucky with deeper snow totals by Friday or Saturday. After that system, a colder storm should bring more snow starting around Sunday and continue through early the following week.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for an update each morning!
