Deepest powder likely Thursday and Friday at Steamboat

Summary

Snow will ramp up on Wednesday afternoon with powder likely on Thursday and potentially deep snow on Friday.

Short Term Forecast

Tuesday was the warm day before the storm with highs in the 30s, plenty of clouds, and also some sunshine later in the day.

Now on Wednesday morning, the storm is coming, but it doesn’t feel like it as we have warm temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s. Snow showers could ramp up during the midday and there could be some raindrops at the base, then we’ll have colder temperatures and snow likely falling steadily from late afternoon through Wednesday evening.

By Thursday morning we should have 4-8 inches of new snow to report and snow showers could continue throughout the day with a few more inches of accumulation.

Then by Thursday around midnight, snow will ramp up again and should fall intensely throughout most of the day on Friday. Snow totals from Thursday night through Friday could be greater than 10 inches.

On Friday night into Saturday morning, snow might continue with at least another few inches of accumulation and soft/deep turns on Saturday morning.

On Saturday and Sunday, most models show snow slowing down with just lighter accumulations, but there’s a chance for more snow than some models show due to storm energy and moisture lingering nearby.

Extended Forecast

I have little confidence in the extended forecast from Monday, February 8 through Sunday, February 14th. Most models show a chance for another storm or two, but there is no agreement about the strength or track of these potential systems. We should be able to dial in the longer-range forecast as we get closer to the weekend.
