Saturday powder possible at Steamboat

Summary

Thursday morning will offer 2 inches of fresh snow, then 3-10 inches of powder could arrive in time for Saturday.

Short Term Forecast

Wednesday was a dry day. Then on Wednesday night, the storm with an unfavorable wind direction managed to deliver 2 inches of snow across the mountain. This is actually a healthy amount for a storm with an unfavorable track and I hope that you enjoy these new flakes on Thursday morning.

Thursday will be mostly dry with just some lingering flakes in the morning.

Then from Friday to Saturday, a storm will bring energy and moisture to northern Colorado and we could wind up with significant accumulations even though a few days ago it looked like this storm was going to track around Colorado rather than through Colorado.

I expect 3-10 inches from Friday through Saturday with the best chance for snow from later Friday through about midday Saturday. This means that the best chance for powder should be on Saturday.

Extended Forecast

As we leave a very snowy February behind and head into March, the forecast for the first 10 days of March looks like we’ll see mostly dry weather with just two chances for storms around March 3-4 and around March 8-9. Perhaps we will get lucky with one or both of these storms, but it is always wise for us snow lovers to keep our expectations low.

From about March 10-15, most models show a stormier pattern setting up over the west coast and we'll have to watch if this pattern actually does develop and if it can translate into more moisture and snow for us here in Colorado.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
