Steamboat Daily Snow
By Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist Posted 3 years ago March 20, 2021
Snow arrives on Saturday night at Steamboat
Summary
On Saturday, enjoy the warm temperatures and sunny skies. Then we’ll see snow on Saturday night with more chances for snow throughout the following week.
Short Term Forecast
Friday was a gorgeous day and we’ll see more of the same on Saturday with plenty of sunshine and warm afternoon temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Winds could be gusty especially during the afternoon. Snow conditions will be firm and crunchy in the morning then softer and slushy by the afternoon. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen, and enjoy!
On Saturday night, the next storm will bring snow and we should see flakes fall between Saturday evening and Sunday morning. A reasonable snow forecast is for 2-4 inches, though there are possibilities for both more than this (if the storm pushes a little farther to the east) and less than this (if the storm stays a little farther to the west). During the day on Sunday, additional snow could fall as a cold front stalls near the mountain. so there could be an upside surprise. The most likely case for Sunday is low-end powder in the morning, though, with the uncertain aspects I noted, there are chances for more or less than the 2-4 inch estimate.
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, additional storms will track south of Colorado and this is usually not a favorable track for big snowfall. We could still see snow showers and light snow accumulations during these days if we’re lucky, but I am not expecting significant snow.
Extended Forecast
The next storm should bring snow from later Thursday through Saturday, March 27th. This storm should take a track over Colorado (rather than to the south of Colorado) and so we’ll see higher chances for significant snow and maybe a powder day on Friday or Saturday. After that, it appears that we’ll transition back to dry and warm weather during the final few days of March and into early April.
Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
