Steamboat Daily Snow

By Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist Posted 3 years ago February 21, 2022
Snowy and cold this week
Summary
A multi-day storm will bring snow during most days this week and temperatures will be very cold.
Update
Sunday was another beautiful day with sunny skies and comfortable temperatures in the 30s.
Now on Monday morning, the skies are cloudy as moisture from the next storm heads into Colorado.
The main story this week will be multiple days of snowy weather and cold temperatures. The incoming storm will stay to the south of Colorado and this is generally not a good setup for big snow here at Steamboat. But, because the storm will stick around for multiple days, and because it will push a lot of storm energy across the state, I still think that we will have a chance to wind up with respectable double-digit snow totals.
The best chances for snow will be from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, and again from Tuesday night through Wednesday night. During each of these periods, we could see 3-6 inches of snow, and there could be powder on Tuesday, Wednesday, and also Thursday morning. If we get lucky and a few stronger cells/squalls hit the mountain, we'll see deeper totals, and we could also get unlucky as well. The most confident part of the forecast is temperatures, which will be in the single digits and low teens on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Following the main storm, there will be another weaker storm on Thursday night into Friday. Friday will be cloudy with continued cold temperatures and maybe a few inches of fluffy snow accumulation.
Saturday should be drier and just a little warmer, then we will see sunny weather and much warmer temperatures starting on Sunday (February 27) and continuing through about Thursday (March 3).
Our next chance for a significant storm will be sometime during the March 4-8 timeframe, though I have virtually no confidence in any details about this storm, so I'll just leave the forecast vague for now and we'll hope for the best.
Thanks for reading and please check back each morning for daily updates!
