Powder day!

Summary

Saturday morning's first chair will offer deep powder, and more snow is in the forecast for the next few days.

Update

Snowfall ramped up on Friday afternoon, with intense snow on Friday night, and the snow is still falling now on Saturday morning.

As of Saturday at 5:00 a.m., the 24-hour total is 10" at mid-mountain and 14" at the summit. The majority of this snow fell after lifts closed on Friday afternoon and will be fresh for Saturday morning.

On Saturday, snow will continue with an additional 4-8 inches of accumulation due to storm energy streaming over northern Colorado.

On Saturday night and most of Sunday, snowfall should wind down or stop completely as Saturday's storm moves away and the wind direction switches to an unfavorable southwesterly direction.

Then from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon, the next storm will arrive and this system will create a narrow band of intense snow that will slowly sag from north to south across Colorado. I think we'll see 5-10 inches of snow from this band, with the best chance for powder on Monday morning. My confidence in this forecast is only moderate as it is impossible to know exactly when this narrow band of intense snow will form and exactly where it will track.

From Tuesday through Friday, we will see dry weather.

Then around the weekend of February 4-5, we might see snow, though, at the moment, the chances for significant snow are pretty low, just 15-30% or so.

Looking further into the future, the good news is that all longer-range weather forecast models are predicting a stormier weather pattern around the western U.S. between about February 6-10, so it appears that the dry weather in early February will be limited to a week or shorter.
