The Steamboat Surprise

Summary

We saw the surprise on Sunday afternoon into Sunday night with 17 inches of new snow. Woohoo!

Update

In my post on Sunday morning, I talked about how the wind and temperature conditions were in the zone for a potential "Steamboat Surprise" on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.

This 'surprise' occurred with about 17 inches of snow accumulating by Monday morning.

Monday should be super fun with new snow over soft conditions. Dress warmly as temperatures will stay in the single digits and teens all day and skies will be mostly to completely cloudy.

From Monday night through Tuesday night, some moisture and storm energy will rotate back into Colorado from a storm in the midwest, and we will likely see periods of light snow, clouds, and chilly temperatures in the single digits and teens. Snow accumulations should be light, just a coating to maybe a few inches, if that.

From Wednesday through Sunday, we'll be on a warming trend with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 20s each day.

Our next chances for snow will be (1) around New Year's, though my expectations are low, and (2) sometime during the first 7-10 days of 2024. For the early 2024 period, the longer-range forecast models show chances for storms around the Rockies, but it's too soon to know if these storms will bring significant snowfall. Let's hope for the best!
