Freshies on Sunday morning

Summary

Saturday night's storm delivered and we'll enjoy soft conditions and chilly temperatures on Sunday morning.

Update

Saturday night's storm came in better than expected as we wound up seeing the band of more intense snow that was forecast to be close to or just to our west. By Sunday at 5 am, the mid-mountain snow stake measured about 10 inches and about 1 additional inch fell between 5 am and 7 am (not pictured).

On Sunday morning, expect fun conditions with soft, fluffy snow (on top of a firm base in a few spots), and for the rest of Sunday and Sunday night, snow showers will stick around we'll see temperatures in the single digits and teens.

While most forecast models only show a few inches of additional snow on Sunday and Sunday night, the temperature at the mountaintop will be around 5°F and the wind direction will swing around to blow more from the west-northwest and west on Sunday afternoon and Sunday night, and this temperature and wind direction can lead to an upside surprise, so keep an eye on the snow stakes for more potential fun on Monday morning.

Following this storm, Monday, December 25 through Sunday, December 26 will be dry. Monday and Tuesday will be chilly with a high temperature in the teens and lingering clouds, and then we'll see a warmer temperature with highs in the 20s and more sunshine from Wednesday through Sunday.

Looking ahead to early 2024, most of the longer-range models show a high-ish chance for a more consistently stormy weather pattern for the first two weeks of the month. I'll hold out cautious optimism that this will happen, and of course, will keep you posted as we get closer to this time.
