Snow and wind this weekend

Summary

Friday will be dry and warm, then we'll see snow from Friday night through Saturday, and we'll also see times of gusty winds.

Update

Thursday

Wednesday was another sunny and warm day with a high temperature in the 40s. More clouds arrived late in the afternoon.

Friday

Friday will be the final day of mostly sunny and warm weather, and the high temperature will again rise into the 40s. On Friday midday and afternoon, winds will be gusty at the upper mountain with speeds of 30-50 mph.

Saturday

On Friday night and Saturday morning, bands of intense snow should deliver 4-8 inches of accumulation with possible powder by Saturday mid-morning. Temperatures will drop into the teens and this will make the base crunchy, so the best snow conditions should be on lower-angle and/or previously groomed terrain.

From Saturday midday through Saturday evening, snow showers may continue, and wind speeds will increase with gusts of 30-50 mph. This could cause issues with lift operations and degrade the snow quality in areas exposed to the wind.

Saturday Night & Sunday

On Saturday night and Sunday, we may see an additional 1-4+ inches of accumulation, but the latest forecast models are trending downward with snowfall, and the storm's decreasing moisture and gusty winds make me think that we should keep our expectations low for additional snow on Saturday night and Sunday.

Sunday should be a mixed day with some snow showers, some sunshine, occasionally gusty winds, and a temperature in the 20s.

Longer Range

Following the weekend storm, the longer-range forecast is for drier and warmer weather between about April 8-19th. We'll have low chances for snow around April 9 and the weekend of April 13-14, and then we could see a stronger storm around the weekend of April 20-21.

My next update will be Saturday morning.
