Steamboat Daily Snow

By Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist Posted 7 years ago December 5, 2017
Update
Monday was a great day at Steamboat with about 4-5 inches waiting for you in the morning and another 4-5 inches that fell during the morning and midday.
The snow that fell on Monday came in the form of big fluffy flakes, the exact type that creates the Champagne Powder that Steamboat is famous for. The weather conditions that most often produce these flakes at Steamboat is a summit temperature of 5-10F and a wind direction from the west, and those were the exact conditions that we saw on Monday morning. Let's hope for more of this during the rest of season!
On Tuesday, clouds are clearing and we should see lots of sun and chilly temperatures will highs in the teens and low 20s.
Then there will be a chance for light snow on Wednesday and Thursday, though I think most of the accumulating snow will stay just to the east of Steamboat.
After that, it appears that we'll move into a dry and warmer weather pattern for the weekend and during most of next week with daytime temperatures in the 30s and nights in the teens (still good for snowmaking).
I will be watching closely for any sign of our next storm and for an adjustment to our current dry weather pattern, which may happen sometime between December 15-20th. Stay tuned!
