Dry Weather Pattern Continues...

Summary

- Through the weekend we have dry weather with highs in the 40's. - The dry pattern looks like it will continue through the end of the month. - We could possibly see a pattern change during the 1st week of February that could bring a return of storms.

Short Term Forecast

Nice weather will continue through next week.  Sunny with highs in the 40's.  Luckily we have received plenty of snow the last 2 weeks with the snowpack above normal.  That will make for nice groomers and soft snow by afternoon each day.

The forecast models are in good agreement that we stay dry through the last day of January.

Extended Forecast

We are still watching for a possible pattern change the first week of February.  The forecast models are still showing a change but a little different pattern than a couple days ago.  Instead of a -EPO/- PNA pattern with a ridge over Alaska and trough along the West Coast, they now show +EPO/neutral PNA pattern with a trough over Alaska down into the Eastern Pacific near the West Coast.

trough

The difference the ridge over the West and trough off the coast which we have seen a lot this season.  The storms try to push into CA and weaken or split.  We are still more than a week out until the first possible storm, so let's just leave it at that for now.  There are still signs we could see a pattern change the first week of February that could bring a return of storms.

The ensemble mean runs of the forecast models show the possibility of a wetter pattern the first week of February.

As well as the CFSv2 model.

All we can do for now is enjoy the snow and nice weather, and continue to watch the forecast evolve for week 2.

Stay tuned...BA
