Spring Ups & Downs Continue...

Summary

Expecting mostly sunny skies and a dry pattern to continue. We will see fluctuations in high temperatures and winds throughout the period.

Update

We have a dry pattern that is expected to continue. Highs will be warming through Wednesday as high-pressure shifts over CA.

ridge

Highs in the 60s at lake level and 50s for the upper mountains through Tuesday, and then warming into the 70s at lake level and 60s for the upper elevations by Wednesday.

Then Thursday a trough pushes through the West Coast. That will cool us down and bring us some gusty winds.

trough 1

Ridgetop winds gusting 40-50+ mph from the southwest Thursday. Highs dropping into the 60s at lake level and 50s for the upper mountains Thursday and then down into the 50s at lake level and 40s for the upper mountains Friday. The sunny skies are expected to continue.

The Weekend:

We are stuck in between the ridge building off of the coast to our west and a deep trough over the West to our east through the weekend and into early next week.

trough 2

That will keep us from warming up a lot. Highs remaining in the 50s to around 60 degrees at lake level. The dry pattern should continue in the long range. The 10-day precipitation forecasts show only a very slight chance for an afternoon shower for the Sierra through the next 10 days. Basically a dry forecast.

10 day precip

For now, it looks like most of May will remain dry outside of the chance for an afternoon shower when/if troughs move through. I will let you know if that changes and a late-season storm could move through.

Be sure to be using OpenSummit for your summer mountain weather. We are adding more features. It is especially helpful with the colder temperatures and stronger winds normally seen when hiking the peaks...

Stay tuned...BA
