Chance for Sunday Showers...

Summary

Mostly sunny and warm through Saturday, with increasing winds by afternoon. Windy and cooler Sunday with a chance of showers. Cooler to start next week and warming by midweek. Then another late-week/weekend cooldown is possible.

Update

We have been on a trend of cool troughs moving through the Pacific NW each weekend bringing us some cooler air and a chance of showers. That will continue this weekend and possibly the following weekend as well.

Through Saturday we are expecting mostly sunny skies with highs near 80 degrees at lake level. 70s for the mountains and 60s for the higher elevations. Typical afternoon breezes on the lake. The winds increase Saturday with ridgetop gusts from the southwest up to 40+ mph and 20+ mph on the lake.

Cool Trough:

The next trough and associated cold front move through the Pacific NW and northern CA Sunday.

trough 1

Winds increase with ridgetop gusts up to 100+ mph by Sunday afternoon! Be careful if you are hiking any peaks. Highs drop into the 60s at lake level and 50s on the mountains. Lake winds gusting up to 30+ mph, so expect choppy/rough boating conditions this weekend.

We could see some showers on Sunday and maybe a thunderstorm during the afternoon. Most of the precipitation looks to stay to our north but we may have a slightly better chance of being brushed by the southern edge of this system than we saw last weekend.

Overall total precipitation amounts look light, but some isolated areas could see some heavier showers, especially if we see a burst with any thunderstorm cells.

Next Week:

The system slides east by Monday with mostly sunny skies returning. We will start out the week cool with highs in the 60s at lake level and lighter winds. Then warming into midweek when we could get close to 80 degrees at lake level by midweek.

We could see yet another cool trough move into the Pacific NW by the end of the week into the weekend of the 17th-19th.

trough 2

That could bring another shot of cooler air and gusty winds. The long-range models show this as a drier trough and no precipitation right now, but we'll keep an eye on it and will update in next Thursday's weekly post.

Stay tuned...BA
