Reminder: This season is starting with a much lower snowpack compared to the average and compared to last season, and the ski area is not yet open. Telluride is planning to open on December 2, 2023.

On Friday morning we saw just light snow showers, then a few intense bands of snow hit the mountain on Friday afternoon and Friday night and dropped about 5 inches at mid-mountain and about 4 inches on the upper mountain (based on automated sensors).

This new snow was on the lower end of my 5-9 forecast, and this occurred because we saw just a few of the more intense bands while the wind direction on Friday night was not favorable.

Now on Saturday, the wind direction should become more favorable (from the west to northwest) and this more favorable wind direction, along with lingering moisture, should produce additional snow showers with light accumulations.

The temperature forecast for the next few days will be favorable to prevent the new snow from melting and to allow crews to continue to make snow. Highs this weekend will be in the teens, and highs next week should be in the 20s to low 30s.

The longer-range forecast is looking "okay" with a few chances for snow but no clear chances for significant snowfall. The next chance for a little bit of snow should be on Thursday and Friday, and then there is a high chance for multiple storms to move through Colorado next week, between about December 2-4. Following that, we will likely transition back to dry weather between about December 5-7, and then there will be another chance for snow between about December 8-10. The combination of upcoming cool temperatures and the multiple chances for more snow should allow mountain operations teams to slowly open terrain through the early part of December.
