It happened! Powder on Thursday morning.

Summary

The storm on Wednesday night delivered 9 inches, so we'll get to enjoy soft turns now on Thursday morning.

Update

On Wednesday night, a storm tracked to the south of Colorado and the forecast was uncertain with a likely range of 2-6 inches and up to 5-10 inches if a few of the more intense waves of snow hit the mountain.

Thankfully, we did see intense snow for most of Wednesday night, and our Thursday morning snow total is about 9 inches based on sensors at mid-mountain and closer to the summit (the snow stake camera always reads a little lower than the automated sensors).

Now on Thursday morning, skies are mostly sunny, and it should be a wonderful morning to make turns through the new snow. Also, hopefully, this new snow will allow mountain operations crews to open more terrain during the coming days.

Coming up, from Thursday, December 14 to about Thursday, December 21, we will see no snow, partly-to-mostly sunny skies, and high temperatures generally in the 30s at mid-mountain.

The next chance for snow in Colorado could be between December 22 to December 25, and early indications are that this storm will track to the south of the state and that might put us in a position to see a decent amount of snow during this time.

Then another chance for snow in Colorado should arrive between December 27-29, and the early indication for this storm is that it could track directly through Colorado which would also bring a decent chance for snow accumulations.

Both of these storms are beyond the 7-day forecast window, so confidence in the forecast is low, but with a week of dry weather coming up, why not look into the longer-range, right?

In the meantime, the low sun angle of mid-December will preserve our base, and hopefully, more terrain will open during the next week.
