Meet Gnorm the Powder Gnome. He sits at 6,400 feet, near the summit of Revelstoke mountain in British Columbia, Canada. Gnorm measures 10 inches tall (10.6 inches to be exact) and recently got himself into head-deep powder as the snow piled up.

Forecast for this week

For the rest of this week, look for the deepest accumulations over the northwest (British Columbia) and also over the mid-Atlantic and New England.

The storm over the northeast will bring mixed precipitation to the coast, but inland at most ski areas, the majority of the precipitation will fall in frozen form.

Forecast for the weekend

This weekend will bring drier weather to the northwest, a quick-moving storm with 1-6 inches to Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado, and continued chilly weather over the northeast with lake-effect snow.

Forecast for Thanksgiving week

Looking ahead to the holiday week, the northwest will see light to moderate snow, the northeast will continue to see cool weather with snow showers and maybe a stronger storm around Tuesday, and the central-western US will finally see the storm track push snow into the area, likely arriving in California around Wednesday or Thursday.

The outlook for the days after Thanksgiving shows the potential for the central-western US and the southwest US to see additional storms, and these systems may track east-northeast.
