For powder, the northwest is best

Summary

We’ve already seen 1-2 FEET of snow in the northwest and 3+ additional FEET of snow will fall in the coming 5-10 days. Let the powder party continue!

Short Term Forecast

NEW map view of the upcoming snowfall

I am excited to share that our new website allows you to see a map view of recent snow reports or upcoming snow forecasts for any country or state. In the map below, I selected the 5-day forecast total for British Columbia in western Canada. The forecast is looking good!

Forecast for Thursday & Friday

Following snow in Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado on Wednesday and Wednesday evening, there will be soft snow for these locations on Thursday morning. In terms of snow that will fall on Thursday and Friday, that will be mostly confined to the northwest.

Forecast for the weekend

The weekend forecast will be a near carbon copy of the forecast for Thursday and Friday. By far the most snow will fall in the northwest. Are you sensing a trend here? :-)

Forecast for next week

Again, the northwest will be the best place to seek powder with additional FEET of snow accumulating. Also, a storm could sneak into Northern California, and a different storm could push the significant snow further east into Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming early in the week.

Extended Forecast

Well, hmm. Most of the map below is red, indicating above-average temperatures (and perhaps a lack of cold, snowy storms) as we head toward Christmas.

That being said, the model is hinting at some storms being heading into the Rockies later in this period, so maybe there will be an uptick in snow near or just after Christmas. Stay tuned as I try to refine the forecast!

Thanks for reading and look for the next forecast on Monday, December 17.
