US and Canada Daily Snow
By Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist Posted 5 years ago February 21, 2019
Deepest snow in southwest then northwest
Summary
Snow totals on Thursday and Friday will be 15-30 inches in Arizona and southern Colorado, then storms will take aim on the northwest later this weekend and early next week.
Short Term Forecast
Forecast for Thursday & Friday (Feb 21 – 22)
The southwest has already seen a big storm earlier this week (Arizona = 10-20”, southern Colorado = 10-40”) and another system will arrive to finish out the week. The same areas of Arizona and southern Colorado will see 15-30+ inches on Thursday and Friday.
Forecast for The Weekend (Feb 23 – 24)
I am watching three areas for potential powder this weekend. Over far northern and eastern New England, I expect snow on Saturday night and Sunday. Over New Mexico, a departing storm should leave powder in its wake on Saturday. And over the northwest, from Oregon into Idaho and Wyoming, there is a chance for snow to form on Sunday, though I have low confidence in the location and intensity of this snow potential.
Forecast for Next Week (Feb 25 – Mar 1)
The big wildcard will be over the northwest and extending to Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Northern California where a consistent flow of moisture from the Pacific Ocean may lead to multiple days of snow and big totals, at least during the first half of the week.
Extended Forecast
The Outlook for March 2 – 6
There is a reasonably strong signal that an active storm track could set up over the Northwest and the Northern Rockies, with snow chances improving over the Northeast as colder air arrives in early March.
Thanks for reading and look for the next forecast on Monday, February 25.
