The Rockies have experienced their first stretch of warm and sunny weather this spring in recent days. But in classic spring rollercoaster fashion, cooler and more unsettled weather will return later this week as a storm slowly tracks across the region.
Snow showers along with cooler temperatures can be expected throughout the Rockies from Wednesday to Friday with heavy snow and late-season powder conditions expected across Southwest Montana. Lingering snow showers and cool temperatures can also be expected across the Pacific Northwest.
Forecast for Wed, Apr 12 – Thu, Apr 13:
Snow showers and colder temperatures can be expected across the Northern Rockies during this period with heavy snow for Southwest Montana, including Big Sky. Lighter snow showers & flurries can also be expected at times across the Cascades, BC Coast Range, and Alaska.
Forecast for Fri, Apr 14 – Sat, Apr 15:
The main focus of snow shower activity will shift into Colorado on Friday with lighter lingering snow showers across the Northern Rockies. Conditions will dry out across the Rockies on Saturday, while a storm will reach the BC Coast Range including Whistler with snow developing.
Across the eastern half of the continent, a storm system will bring rain showers and thunderstorms to the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic.
Forecast for Sun, Apr 16 – Mon, Apr 17:
A storm will impact the Northwest during this period with relatively low snow levels for this time of year. Heavy snow is possible across the BC Coast Range with light/moderate snow across the BC Interior/Canadian Rockies as well as the Cascades and Northern Idaho.
A storm system will bring widespread rain to the East during this period while colder air along with moisture wrapping around the backside of the system could result in snow for portions of the Northern Great Lakes.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Tue, Apr 18 – Sat, Apr 22:
A cool and unsettled pattern can be expected across the West during this period, with the main storm track favoring the Pacific Northwest, Western Canada, and Northern U.S. Rockies. Areas further south in the Central Rockies and possibly the Sierra could receive a little bit of snow as well.
