Most of the past week or two was warm and dry in the western US. The ridge of high pressure responsible for this dry weather will be breaking down thankfully, and more active weather will be in store for early November.

The snow forecast for this week, from Monday, October 30 to Friday, November 3, shows that the largest area of heavy snow will fall over the Pacific Northwest, from British Columba through Washington and Oregon and over to northern Idaho and Montana. Also, and slightly unrelated, a small zone of intense snow should hit parts of Colorado on Tuesday.

Later in the week, the area of storminess will move a bit to the south and east, and this should bring heavy snow (1-2 feet?!) to California and Idaho.

The storm will continue to move east with Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming likely getting in on the action late next weekend and into early next week.

I love equal-opportunity snow storms that bring flakes to most mountain ranges, and this is exactly what we'll see over the next 7-8 days. Get ready for winter-like pictures of powder to pop up this week on your social feeds!

Beyond about 7-10 days, it's nearly impossible to forecast the details of snow storms, but we can see some accuracy forecasting the general weather pattern.

Looking ahead to next week, November 6-10, it looks like the weather pattern will be similar to this upcoming week with the coldest air sticking around Canada and the west coast. These same areas will be favored for snowfall.
