Our Break Continues

Summary

High pressure remains in control with warm spring-like temps and sunny skies. The ridge will break down somewhat later this weak with chances for showers returning to mainly southern Utah.

Short Term Forecast

Really not much going on in the short-term.  High pressure is keeping us sunny and warm.  Spring conditions developing with lower elevations melting off some of the snow.

The ridge is amplifying up the western part of Canada and as it does so, it will allow energy to undercut it a bit.  A closed low system will spin its way into the desert southwest later this week.  We should see showers develop in southern Utah as early as Wednesday with showers remaining a possibility thru the end of the work week.  Overall, totals in southern Utah will be modest, with very light accumulations expected in the highest elevations of northern Utah.  You an see the ensemble mean precip over the next week keeps anything appreciable in the southern half of the state:

So really nothing exciting over the next week, but we should see clouds return with slightly cooler temps and chances for showers, especially in the south.

Extended Forecast

Next weekend we could see another storm try to push into the region Sunday or Monday (24-25th).  It's a wee bit early for any details but we'll keep an eye on that.  Long-range models suggest we will generally be getting more active toward the end of the month, but at this point it looks like smaller, less-organized storms.
