Wednesday’s forecast is easy – enjoy the bluebird skies and warm temperatures that will rise into the 30s and 40s.

Thursday will be a transition day between high pressure and the next storm, so expect more clouds and cooler temperatures holding in the 30s.

On Thursday night, we could see flakes with light accumulations (coating to 2 inches), then on Friday and Saturday, there could be additional periods of snow with light accumulations (coating to 2 inches). It now looks like the final piece of storm energy on Saturday afternoon and/or Saturday night could bring the steadiest snow (2-4 inches?), so watch out for softer turns either last chair Saturday or first chair Sunday.

This one storm, with 4-8 inches of potential snowfall, is not a massive system, but it is a step in the right direction. And there will be more storms next week.

The longer-range forecast from all models shows the likelihood that we’ll see a chance for a storm every few days through the middle or even the end of December. With so many storm possibilities, it’s hard to nail down the timing at the moment, though I am keeping an eye on Tuesday, December 15, Thursday, December 17, and the following Tuesday, December 22 as the days with higher chances for snow.

While it is too early to know if any of these storms will bring a lot of snow, seeing consistent storms on the horizon gives me (scientifically-supported) hope that our snowpack will be deeper and that we’ll enjoy a lot more open terrain over the next few weeks.
