Winter Park Daily Snow
By Joel Gratz, Founding Meteorologist Posted 3 years ago December 22, 2020
Snow Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning at Winter Park
Summary
Tuesday will start dry and sunny then we’ll see afternoon showers, a burst of snow in the evening, and lingering snow showers on Wednesday morning with a total of 3-6 inches.
Short Term Forecast
Monday wound up being mostly cloudy throughout the day with the clouds dissipating right around sunset.
Tuesday will start sunny and warm with temperatures in the 20s and 30s. On Tuesday afternoon, we’ll see showers with light accumulations. On Tuesday evening just after sunset through early evening, a cold front will move through with a burst of intense snow. Then snow showers will continue on Tuesday night.
Wednesday morning is when we have the best chance for softer turns with 3-6 inches of accumulation. Wednesday will be a very cold day with temperatures in the single digits all day, and while we might see some lingering snow showers through the day, the cold and moisture-starved airmass should limit accumulations.
Extended Forecast
Thursday, Friday, and most of Saturday will be dry, and temperatures will warm each day with highs in the 20s on Thursday and the 30s on Friday and Saturday.
The next storm could bring snow from Saturday night through Sunday. I have low confidence in the details of this storm but keep your eye on Sunday as a potentially sneaky snow day.
Then for the week of New Years, a strong storm should bring snow to Colorado from later Monday through Wednesday (December 28-30). It’s still a bit too early to talk about the details of this system, and we’ll refine the outlook during the next few days.
Speaking of outlooks, the longer-range forecast out into early January 2021 is for a stormy pattern for much of the western US and Rockies. This could mean good (snowy) news for us...fingers crossed!
Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
