A break from the snow at Winter Park

Summary

Saturday morning finally brought snow with 3 inches accumulating before noon. Looking ahead, we’ll enjoy dry and sunny weather through Wednesday.

Short Term Forecast

We started Saturday with 1 inch of snow at mid-mountain and were bummed because we expected more. Then between about 800am and noon, we finally got the snow that we hoped for with an additional 3 inches of accumulation. A few snow showers lingered on Saturday night and produced 1 more inch on the mid-mountain snow stake.

Now on Sunday morning, it is cold with temperatures near 0°F on the mountain, and clouds are covering the sky. These clouds should give way to sunshine during the middle of the day and the afternoon, and temperatures will only top out in the teens.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be sunny and warmer days with high temperatures hitting the upper 20s to low 30s. The combination of sunshine, warmth, and the higher sun angle of March will make it feel like springtime.

Extended Forecast

There will be two chances for light snow coming up with one on Thursday and Thursday night and another around Sunday, March 7th. Neither of these storms appears significant, and snow accumulations could be anything from no flakes to maybe an inch or two.

Outside of these two potential storms, the time from March 5th through about March 10th looks mostly dry and warm with daytime high temperatures in the 30s and maybe even reaching the 40s with a true feeling of spring skiing in the air.

After March 10th, a stormy weather pattern will set up over the west coast and we’ll need to keep an eye on this since the pattern could result in a storm, or multiple storms, eventually heading east into Colorado.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
