Powder Day!

Summary

A lot of snow fell on Wednesday night, so we'll enjoy (likely denser) powder on Thursday morning.

Update

Thankfully, the forecast for a powder day on Thursday morning worked!

On Wednesday, we saw some snow during the second half of the day, and the intense snow began on Wednesday night and continued into early Thursday morning.

The official 24-hour report is 13 inches at mid-mountain. Due to slowly rising temperatures and very strong winds, a lot of this snow has likely been drifted and is dense with a surfy feel, but the snow on the snow stake cam looks a little fluffier than I would have expected due to winds and temepratures.

Now on Thursday morning, snow is continuing to fall.

With slower winds now on Thursday morning, the new snow could feel fluffier than a lot of snow that fell during the past 24 hours, so I'm hoping for some fluff on top of maybe a spongy base.

For the rest of Thursday, I think the snow will continue to fall in the morning with 3-5 inches accumulating on top of what was reported at 500am. Enjoy the powder day. Temperatures will be in the 20s and wind speeds will still be somewhat strong.

On Friday, we'll see a break in the snow will sunny skies and temperatures in the 30s. There will be powder leftovers scattered around the mountain.

On Saturday, a weak storm will bring snow during the morning, midday, afternoon, and early evening. Accumulations could be 1-6 inches, though I have low confidence in this forecast. I think Saturday's snowfall will fall short of a real powder day, but it'll be fun to cruise around with flakes falling and a soft surface under your skis or board.

From Sunday, January 9 to Wednesday, January 12, we will have dry and sunny weather. Sunday will be cooler with highs in the 20s and then Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be warmer with highs in the 30s.

Our next chance for snow will be around Thursday, January 13 to Friday, January 14.

Thanks for reading and please check back each morning for daily updates!
